DESCRIPTION

Built between 1820 and 1850, this location was named after the French city of Montpelier and thought to conjure imagery of fashionable society of the era. At first sight of Montpelier Square, Cynthia, wife of Hungarian-British author and journalist Arthur Koestler, wrote: “'Something about the atmosphere of the place gripped me, it struck me as the most beautiful square I had ever seen.”
